Volvooceanrace 2021-22 start from Alicante, with two classes, VO65 and IMOCA60

Automatisch vertalen:

IMOCA 60 is a design-driven, foil-assisted monohull on the cutting edge of technology.
VO65 is a one-design offshore racing boat that was used in the last two editions of the Volvo Ocean Race.

The next edition of the race will start from Alicante, Spain in September/October of 2021, and finish in Europe in May/June of 2022.

Volvooceanrace will get a new name, since Volvo will no longer be the main sponsor.

By having two classes in the competition they want to keep the best of both worlds.
VO65 as an one-design class with the benefits it brings, all teams have the same material and it's the skill of sailing that is crucial.
IMOCA60 is a design-driven class that drives development towards better materials, smarter designs and faster boats.

The idea is that the VO65 is to be sailed by younger sailors introduced to this type of competition, while the IMOCA60 is sailed by more experienced crew.
